Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
  2. Combine blackberries, 3/4 cup sugar, flour, and 2 tbsp lemon juice in a baking dish
  3. Chill crumb topping ingredients for 30 minutes prior to baking
  4. Mix oats, 1/2 cup sugar, and cold butter until crumbly; add vanilla if using
  5. Spread crumb mixture over berry filling
  6. Bake for 40 minutes until golden and bubbly
  7. Tap dish gently after baking to check for slight center wobble
