- Boil 1 cup water as per gelatin package instructions. Add sugar from the mix and stir until dissolved.
- Add 2 cups cold water to the gelatin mixture and pour half into a 9-inch springform pan or glass bowl. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Spoon a layer of whipped topping over the set gelatin and smooth the surface with a spatula.
- Mix the second gelatin batch and pour over the whipped topping. Gently press to settle, then chill for 1 hour until fully set.
- Top with optional fruit slices or a dusting of powdered sugar before serving.
